I would forget this moment. I was really hungry and I only have 120 pesos left. I decided to eat at one of the nearest fastfood restaurant available here in Makati. I decided to allocate my 20 pesos for my transportation going to and from the restaurant.
I ordered the best food that I can afford with my 100 pesos - a garlic chicken meal with drinks. While I was eating my meal there was this one girl that came in the fastfood chain and talked to one of the waiters she immediately saw.
She said "Kuya, pabili ng pagkain. Gutom na gutom na ako. Ito lang pera ko" (Brother, I want to purchase some food. I'm famished. This is all the money that I have) and then she showed him a twenty peso bill.
It drew my attention and one of the lady on the next table at my left since we were seating near one of the doors of the retaurant..
The girl added "Ang sakit na ng tiyan ko kuya, please. Ano ba mabibili ng pera ko". (Please! My stomach is aching a lot brother. What can my money afford?)
The waiter advised the girl to sit down and wait.
The girl sat down with one guy on the other other in front of me.
The guy was shocked and was staring at the girl while eating his food.
The waiter came back with Wanton Soup which was priced above the girl's money.
The girl thanked the waiter and started eating right away. One of the "kumare" of the lady on the table on my left came and the lady said "Kawawa naman yung bata oh. Kulang ang pera n'ya at nagugutom s'ya. Binigyan na lang sya noong soup". (Oh that poor kid. She doesn't have enough money and she was hungry. She was just given that soup)
Her kumare responded and said "Ibigay na lang natin ang Siopao na inorder natin". (We can just give her the Siopao that we ordered)
One of them stand up and gave the Siopao to the girl..
When the lady came back, she said "Buti na lang di tayo nakaranas ng ganoon. May mga tao na nagugutom". (Fortunately, when we did not experienced the same. There are people starving.)
I wanted to buy the girl a nice meal since the meal that she got was clearly not enough, but I couldn't. I do not have enough money left to do that. All I have is a spare change and my money I allocated for my transportation.
After the girl finished eating, she can to the two ladies table and thanked them. It seems that the girl wanted to have a place to stay for the night. I hear the lady said "Di namin pwede gawin yan. May batas tayo para dyan. Magiging kidnapping ang mangyayari. Nasaan ba ang magulang mo? Saan ka galing?" (We can never do that. We have laws for that matter. It will be considered as kidnapping. Where are your parents? Where are you from?)
The girl responded with a slight sad face "Wala na. Wala na sila. Naiwan ako sa Guadalupe". (I have no more parents. They are gone. I was left at Guadalupe)
The lady said "Pumunta ka sa DSWD bukas. Sarado na 'yon ngayon. Di ka namin pwedeng iuwi". (Go to the DSWD tomorrow. They are closed now. We can not bring you home)
The girl was about to leave and I decided to have her all my money left and kept enough for my transportation She smiled back at me and thanked me.
It was a great feeling. I am really a shy person and being able to give something and receiving a smile back to her was a feeling that money can't buy. I really feel sorry for the girl and I hoped I could have give more. It truly is better to give than to receive.
I felt full and left the fast food building. When I came out, the girl was there and was talking to a man. Before I rode the Jeepney home, I saw the man hand over money. I'm not sure if the man was a peanut vendor or was just a passerby.
I hope the girl find a great place to stay for the night and I hope she will go to DSWD tomorrow.
I am thankful that I have a place to stay, not just for the night, but for everyday and every night (If I will be able to pay for the monthly house rent. Haha).
God bless everyone!
